Pick Your Priorities Tonight

You light one up and take in a few drags,
Deep and fulfilling,
Until the craving stops,
Until the elixir becomes one with the blood,
Immersed and submerged,
Like a fish in water,
A poison to the lungs,
A blessing to the head,
Heart still astray,
Pick your priorities tonight

For the day will come,
And it will all wither away,
Like broken memories,
In a cloud of dust,
A poison to the lungs,
A poison to the head,
Heart forever astray,
Before it’s too late,
Or maybe it already is,
Better pick your priorities tonight

For nothing lasts forever,
Until you observe it all in the rearview mirror,
And then it all makes sense,
Finally,
When it’s too late,
And then all you can do is,
Keep on poisoning your lungs,
Keep on poisoning your head,
The heart was never yours to corrupt anyway,
And you wonder,
If you could have done better,
To pick your priorities when it mattered
